There will be many things to celebrate when one of the South Korean golfers wins the BMW Ladies Championship in Busan. According to real time sports betting reports, South Koreans are looking for the 200th LPGA win collectively. Also, it is the only LPGA event in the country this year.
The BMW Ladies Championship is also the only Asian stop of the LPGA. The event launched in 2019. However, the LPGA canceled it last year due to the pandemic. The tournament has a total prize pot of $2 million, with the winner getting $300,000.
Ko Jin-young is currently the World No. 2 golfer. She earned South Korea’s 199th LPGA win at the Cognizant Founders Cup last October 10. Also, she’s the highest-ranked golfer to take part in this week’s tournament in Busan.
South Korean are Looking for 200th LPGA Win
There will be 50 LPGA players participating in the LPGA tournament. Also, 30 Korean LPGA Tour players will be part of the field. Lastly, the sponsors invited four players. Out of the 84 players, 49 are South Koreans. Therefore, the betting odds are high that the winner comes from the host country.
According to online sports news reports, Ko is the favorite. However, they stated that bettors should not discount the three South Korean Olympians in the field. Park In-bee, Kim Sei-young, and Kim Hyo-joo have the chance to win South Korea’s 200th LPGA win.
Ko can become World No. 1 by winning the BMW Ladies Championship this week. The current leader, Nelly Korda, is absent from the tournament. If that happens, Ko will take the top position for the second time in her professional golfing career.
South Korean Jang Hana is the defending champion of the tournament. She will be part of the event that will start on Thursday in Busan.
