Parx Casino is the newest major employer in Shippensburg and the nearby communities. The casino has created more than 200 jobs. Also, Parx paid $8.1 million for the license to operate in the township.
According to gambling website reviews and news sites, the casino operator used $80 million to renovate an empty storefront into a casino facility with a sports bar and restaurant. As a result, local contractors and workers worked on the project. They turned the vacant building into a busy gambling facility.
The Parx Casino Shippensburg will provide $100,000 each year to the township for the next decade. Also, the gambling industry will provide more property tax revenue to the township, school district, and county. Insiders expect the casino to have an annual economic impact of $43 million.
Parx Casino in Shippensburg
This new industry is expanding Shippensburg’s company tax base, which is excellent news. In addition, Pennsylvania’s gaming industry is vital to the state’s economy, providing over 20,000 direct employments in casinos and indirectly supporting an additional 33,000 jobs across the state.
There is no coincidence about that effect. Throughout the last two decades, lawmakers have maintained three goals for the gambling industry: (1) it must bring in substantial tax revenues; (2) it must create good-paying jobs in the casinos and other sectors in host communities and across the state; and (3) it must be heavily regulated to ensure integrity and public safety.
During the approval process, locals and supervisors voiced valid concerns about the casino, including safety issues and traffic congestion. So far, Parx has been entirely reliable, and we anticipate more casino expansion and new employment creation. However, no mention of the development into online casinos in Korea.
But we cannot lose sight of the fact that we’re in business together. For example, each casino in Pennsylvania pays a tax to the state equal to 54 percent of its slot machine earnings.
