Kim Hyo-joo is tied in third place with Patty Tavatanakit from Thailand at the DIO Implant LA Open. It was the best finish ever for a Korean at the LPGA event. Also, she finished with 12-under-par. In addition, she missed the chance to win the tournament by three strokes.
According to sports news coverage, Ruoning Yin won the event with 15-under-par. Georgia Hall is in second place with 14-under-par. Thus, Yin became the second golfer from China to win an LPGA event since Shanshan Feng. The latter retired last August.
It was Yin’s first LPGA title to date. On the other hand, it was Kim’s best performance in 2023. She was in tenth place in the Honda LPGA Thailand. Also, she was in eighth place in the HSBC Women’s World Championship.

According to sports betting Korea reports, the event’s other notable Korean golfers had underwhelming performances. Ryu Hae-ran and Cho Hye-jin were tied at 18th place with five under par. Also, it was the second-best performance from Koreans in the tournament. However, Ko Jin-young ranked third in the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings, shot a lackluster four-under-par 280, and tied for 25th place.
The world No. 3 golfer had a chance to regain the No. 1 spot she lost in the rankings in November, but she finished in a disappointing second place on Sunday. Even New Zealand’s No. 1 Lydia Ko did not play to her potential, ending in a tie for 34th with one more stroke than No. 2 Ko Jin-young. No LPGA tournament has been won by the Kiwi so far in 2018. Kim, however, will rest for a week before heading to Hawaii for the LPGA Lotte Championship on April 12.
