Learning how to play the different table games in casinos can be pretty confusing at first. But they are actually quite easy to learn, and even easier to master, if you are willing to put the time to practice and bet on the games. First on our list of casino tutorials is Craps.
Craps is played using dice, and can also be played online. In land-based casinos, its usually the noisiest table with people cheering and screaming. If you want to learn and concentrate, you can do this online to rid yourself of distractions.
Generally, there are two types of craps: casino craps and street craps. The only difference between the two, is who you are betting against. In casino craps, you play against the house, and in street craps, you play against the other players.
But Craps itself is very easy to learn. You simply place a bet on the outcome of the 2 dice thrown. The shooter, who is usually a player, will roll the dice. Then based on the outcome of the dice, all players will be paid out based on their bets. Some of these bets, can be done in just one roll, but some may need another roll.
A Closer Look at Craps
Now, the shooter is not one single player. The players all take turn rolling the dice. But before they roll the dice, all of the players will place their chips on the bets that they want to on the table. Its usually with a green background, and there are either the pass line or the do not pass lines on the table. These are the Right & Wrong or Win and Don’t Win types of bets.
The rolling of the dice is clockwise, and the shooter rolls until he loses, which is from getting a 7, or by finishing his round. The dealer, is the Stickman, who has a curved stick that he will use to collect chips and move the dice around the table. The Stickman gives the shooter 5 dice, but the shooter will choose 2 out of those.
Craps Wagers
The Line wager is the most common type where you place bets in either the Pass Line or the Don’t Pass Line. The first roll is the come-out dice roll. If the result is a 7 or 11, then shooter wins. If the dice is 2, 3 or 12, the shooter loses. But if the result is not any of the numbers we mentioned, its called a Point, and the shooter throws the dice again. If the value is the same as the previous one, the shooter wins again, but if he rolls a 7 before that, he loses. The Do Not Pass wager is the opposite, there both bets will pay 1:1.
There really is no strategy to winning Craps since its purely a game of luck. Your win will be based on how the dice ends up on the table. You are, however, usually safer with Pass Line bets since these have better odds than other areas in the table. Don’t Pass offers technically have better house odds, but this means betting against the shooter, which is somewhat not a favorite of those who bet on craps. The difference is so little, at 0.05, and you are better with betting with the shooter.
