The US elections and the online poker industry seems weird to use in a sentence together. But odd as it sounds, the elections in the US in November will be pivotal in changing the landscape of a lot of issues, and online poker is one of those.
The issue is mainly on the change of policies that could be brought about by newly elected officials. The best example is in Nevada, where Governor Brian Sandoval has reached his term limit. The current Attorney General, Adam Laxalt won the primaries for the Republicans this year. If he wins as governor, then any efforts on online gambling and sports betting will be futile.
Laxalt, apparently, is advocating against online gambling and has launched a lot of efforts to kill online gambling across the US.
Online Poker in the US
But, you do have California, where online gambling is very promising. The discussion on this has been ongoing for quite some time, but they could not reach a consensus. With the changes on gambling across the US this year, things may speed up for the state.
You also have states like Michigan, and New York. Both have passed legislation on legalized gambling, online poker and others for the past couple of years. It is very possible that in the year to come, the bills may be put to vote finally and pass it into law.
Florida, however, is putting the vote into the hands of its citizens. They will be going to the polls to vote if they want to allow new gambling ventures in the state. Of course, all of the states in the US will have their own policies on online poker, and the legalization will happen with different timelines. For some states, its just a matter of when, but for some, it might take a little more time, and some luck.
