The 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China will be taking place between September 23 thru October 8, 2023 this year. Originally, it was the 2022 Asian Games but due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 in Hangzhou last year. However, the 4-year sporting event is back and here is our 2023 Asian Games Preview for South Korea.
According to online sports betting news, this will be the nineteenth version of the Asian Games. In addition, it will boast 45 countries and 12,500 athletes and the competition will be fierce. However, the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee (KSOC) plans on winning between 45 and 50 gold medals. If they can achieve that goal, it would put Korea in third place in terms of medals won.
Many observers believe that this is a modest goal for South Korea. Especially since from 1998 to 2014, Korea has always been second behind China. However, this year they believe things will be different as they are training a new generation of athletes.
The KSOC expects to get a gold medal in each swimming, archery, fencing, taekwondo and modern pentathlon.
2023 Asian Games Preview – Korean Athletes and Events to Watch
Korean National Football Team – The Taegeuk Warriors under the new leadership of head coach Jurgen Klinsmann have a lot of pressure on them. This is because they will be attempting to win their fourth consecutive Gold Medal at the Asian Games.
However, football betting fans have not been happy with the performance of the team so far. Since Klinsmann took over the team, Korea has not had any win with a 0-2-2 record.
Badminton – Expect to see the South Korean badminton team to go above and beyond in this sport category. This is because during the 2018 Asian games, Korea was shut out of any medals in badminton. Furthermore, it was the first time the country did not get a medal in that event. Thus, this year they are confident that they will win a medal in every badminton discipline.
Fencing Event – Song Se-ra is the great big hope for South Korea for the Asian Games fencing event. Despite a height only 164 centimeters, she ranks fifth in the world in women’s epee. In addition, she won the gold medal in the individual and team epee events at the 2022 World Fencing Championship.
Swimming Event – For the 2023 Asian Games, Koreans have their eyes on the 22 years old swimmer, Kim Woo-min. According to betting odds websites, his goal is to be the first Korean swimmer to win 4 gold medals. He will be competing in the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,500-meter freestyle, and the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.
Archery and Taekwondo – These are 2 sporting events that Korea excels in as Korea has been dominating these two sports for decades. Therefore, these 2 events will be a fun watch for both Korean betting fans.
