YouTube, the most popular video streaming platform in the U.S. is now giving more options to viewers about its ads. Or at least, when it comes to viewing Gambling and Alcohol ads in certain regions of the world. This is because YouTube Users Can Limit Gambling Ads thanks to the addition of a new option setting.
According to a statement by Google, the owner of YouTube, users now have an option to limit gambling ads. Thus, viewers who wants to see less gambling ads can simply click log into their account and choose that option. However, that option is only available to YouTube and the U.S. market. According to Sports Betting websites, the option will be available to other social media platforms and other countries in 2021.
YouTube Users Can Limit Gambling Ads but Not Eliminate All of Them
This is the first step for Google who is trying to help people what kind of ads they can see. According to Online Gambling websites, Google chose these 2 types of ads because of their sensitivity to the public. However, while the new option will limit gambling and alcohol ads, it will not take all of them out. This is because it is possible some of these ads may slip through the new filter.
Furthermore, according to the Google blog post, this will not affect countries with legal restrictions on gambling and alcohol advertisement.
This addition to this option is part of Google’s commitment to prioritize transparency in how they operate.
In the past, YouTube users had to mute the ads they did not want to see. However, this new feature will give viewers more control with just a click of a button. This new initiative comes as many states now have legal sports betting. Therefore, Americans that reside in states with legal gambling were beginning to see more gambling ads.
According to online sports forums, back in the early 2000s, Google did allow gambling ads in their U.S. network. However, after the federal government began to shutdown overseas sportsbooks in 2006, Google made a change in its advertisement policies. Today, they accept gambling ads in the U.S. but only if they have a gambling license.
