Casino workers around the globe are having a difficult time surviving because of the coronavirus casino shutdown. In the U.S., casino workers are not happy with casino companies as many are not able to claim unemployment benefits. Therefore, in an online conference on Thursday, casino workers and union leaders are asking casinos to do the right thing. Thus, Casino Employees Demand Pay during the Coronavirus Shutdown with full benefits.
According to the latest online casino news, casino employees and unions want the casino industry to do what is right. This is because many laid-off workers have no income and are unable to pay their bills, rent and mortgage payment. However, casino companies have large cash reserves but are not using them to help their employees. Even with online gambling available where players can continue to play at online slot machines or other games, the situation remains difficult.
Only a Partial Response from Casinos to help their Employees
Casino workers from Las Vegas, Atlantic City, New Orleans and Mississippi do not know when they will be working again. Most casino operators believe they will not open until after the month of April. However, the future is still uncertain for casino workers as casinos could be shut down for much longer.
For now, several casinos are giving most of their employees some help. Some are giving furlough pay and continuing to pay their benefits throughout the month of April. Unfortunately, this does not apply to everyone as several workers are only getting some vacation pay or nothing at all. Furthermore, if the situation continues pass April, more workers will not receive any benefits.
Donald Taylor, the president of the Unite Here union says casinos are “just sitting on a pile of money”. Instead of taking care of their workers, they are saving the money for their investors. Furthermore, casinos are also able to get financial assistance from the federal government and get low interest loans.
However, only a handful of casinos have made long term plans to take care of their employees. So far, only a few casinos like Wind Creek, have made arrangements to pay their workers through May 31.
According to Global Gambling news, the situation is much the same in other countries. For example, normal and online casinos in Korea also have their door shut. Thus, their employees are also having a hard time meeting their financial demands.
