Like other sports, baseball betting allows gamblers to bet on the money line, the point spread or the game total. However, scoring in baseball is different than basketball and American football because the scoring is lower. Thus, point spread betting is know as Run Line betting. In this baseball betting tutorial, we go over Understanding KBO Run line Odds and betting strategies.
The typical KBO run line is 1.5 runs and is set at -1.5 for the favorite and+1.5 for the underdog. In fact, it is the same as the puck line in hockey betting. The odds on the run line will vary for a number of reasons. When betting the KBO run line, it’s a good idea to have an understanding of it to maximize your profits.
Understanding KBO Run Line Odds and its Strategies
The best way to understand the KBO run line is to look at an example. In this case, we will take a game between the Samsung Lions. And the Doosan Bears.
Samsung Lions: +120 +1.5 (-170)
Doosan Bears: -130 -1.5 (+150)
In this example, the Doosan Bears is the favorite team to win. This means you wager $130 to win $100 when you bet on the Doosan Bears money line. However, you can bet $100 to win to $150 if the Bears beat the Lions by at least 2 runs.
On the other hand, for betting on the Samsung Lions money line, you risk $100 to win $120. The same thing applies if you want to bet on the Lions Run line. However, you would risk $170 to win $100 if they lose by more than 2 runs.
KBO Run Line Betting Strategy
It is often more useful to bet on the run line when you have a big money line favorite. Say the same two teams are playing, but the Lions are sitting some veterans. Or maybe a team’s baseball scores have been trending recently. Maybe they have some injuries to key players. For whatever reason, the Bears are a -280 favorite.
Samsung Lions: +250 +1.5 (+130)
Doosan Bears: -280 -1.5 (-150)
In this case, if you still want to bet on the Bears the better wager is on the run line. This is because you can bet $150 to win $100. You could also approach it from the other side. You get the one-run cushion on the team favored to lose but still get a nice payout at +130.
This is actually a strategy used by KBO run line bettors. Games with big money line differentials often end with a margin of one run. Bettors like the underdog in this case.
